Dream

I imagine a world
of social justice:
resources used sustainably,
and shared,
wildlife and water protected,
a world of clean energy
and thriving organic gardens.

The humans are all smiling
and no human or animal
is abused or beaten or shot,
a world where guns do not exist.
The children are all loved,
and the elderly are
not lonely, but included,
for they are the storytellers.

It is a world of peace and beauty
and, the thing is,
it is available right now,
if humanity wants it.

for Elizabeth Crawford's Creativity Challenge: Imagination: to envision the world the way we would like it to be. Dark and light forces are battling right now. My best hope is that light will emerge as the chosen direction, and set to work recreating the world. This is likely only when humans are forced to find a better way. The concern is, we don't have much time left to make the turning. And are about to be set back years we can't afford to lose. But we shall dream on, because we must. It takes every hopeful human heart.

This really hit me hard. So true.

  2. TRUE. Which raises the crooked letter question over and over: Why? And oh, yeah, the storytellers!

  3. That's the kind of world I'd like too, Sherry. :-)

  5. The world we would have, if we only stopped to look at it, to love it for what it is, to care for it, to value all things for what they are...

    This is beautiful, Sherry... beautiful.

  6. A wonderful poem, Sherry! And it lifts my heart because it is so like the vision recently sent out into the world by the Goddesses of Shining Light (a group I belong to) with the idea of adding it to our mass consciousness. An now here is this poem, articulating such similar things, so very beautifully!

...beautiful thought and yes we can make it happen if only we wish to.

  14. We clearly cannot protect the planet from greedy don't care humans. We should be waening ourselves off fossil fuels as they cause so much harm and are limited. Just what is the use in destroying the beauty of the planet and its wild inhabitants just because we can? It is because our governments are letting us and the whole world down. Why is it but the poets that see this?

It takes a lot of political will to prevent the powers that be from acting like despots preying against the powerless. Perhaps one fine day but not to place too much hope on it. It is depressing!

  16. It is so sad that something so simple feels so far away - i love the thought of the elderly being storytellers and being treasured as much as the young - a wonderful dream

  17. We can hope for that world to evole, storytellers are much like dreamers. They see with a different eye. The elderly do have the gift of stories if only some would sit and listen.

  18. Me, too. I love the lines about the elders being the storytellers.

  20. Dear Sherry we share similar creative instincts, our created worlds are so similar and yes indeed i would cast my elders in the role of griots

    "and the elderly are
    not lonely, but included,
    for they are the storytellers."

    have a lovely Sunday

    much love...

  25. The hairs on the back of my neck actually went up, as I read the close on this piece. Such a simple truth - and yet, it seems sometimes as if the world has become so dark that even imagining the prospect of humankind proceeding through our lives with a bit of kindness, decency and consideration for others, is somewhat ... shocking.

  26. A really wonderful world it would and could be.

  27. I love your dream. If we can imagine it, it can be real. Let us pray.

  28. the elderly are
    not lonely, but included,
for they are the storytellers..... as the years pass the thought of future lonelyness creeps ever forward in ones mind.
