Plant A Tree

Walbran Valley
tjwatt.com

I hear the ghost of Sister Forest
singing
when the moon is full,
singing
when the moon is full,
on the denuded slopes.

"Our roots, our hearts are here,
though our bodies are all gone.
Our bodies are all gone,
our souls have nowhere
to belong.

"When you see what you have sown
on the mountains no one owns,
plant a tree, plant a tree,
in memory of me."

For Gillena's prompt at Real Toads: 100 words or less, for Mother Earth. For Earth Day. Day 22. 72 words, including the title.

  5. Antsy to plant a tree this spring. It's almost time here.

  6. The deed of planting a tree... that's what should be rewarded... let it grow, let it grow.. let it fill the hills... come sow... come sow these barren hills of mine.. You had me humming along.

  7. Perfect! Picture and words. Keep channeling their words. We all need you. I've planted three trees to make up for the one that I had to take down before it toppled on someone.

  14. Forests are one of my favourite places, like family. I only wish I could compose the music for this beautiful and plaintive requiem. Still, I can plant a tree...smiles

  15. That simple act repeated by us all will go far in healing our planet. Lovely!

  16. What a sad song Sherry. Such destruction of the forests should never happen. Just to build more places to live, too expensive for most of us to live in. Wonderful write!

  19. One of the most beautiful thing, I love about Toronto, is its urban forests, that covers so much of the city. Sadly, many of its Ash trees have been cut down due to an insect invasion. May all trees cut down, be replace, by those, native to that region, and not force monocultured trees, by those, who cut them.
