beautiful art by James Browne
Raven points into the forest
with a feathery wing.
Wild Woman walks
along the-path-that-is-no-path,
arriving at a faery cottage
on whose doorstep sits an owl,
blinking her yellow owl eyes.
What place is this? asks Wild Woman,
wanting and fearing the answer.
It is the place where one wish is granted,
and one only.
Not the wish you always wish,
but a bigger wish,
spoken by the soul of you.
That's easy, replies Wild Woman.
I wish I could go back
and do it better.
for Corey's prompt at Real Toads: The Heart's Desire: write about being granted one wish
That's a fantasy! I love the details of the leaders and the setting, the suspense along "along the-path-that-is-no-path." I could not anticipate your wish! That made this special.
ReplyDeleteI love the you that is YOU in the here and now.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! To know what we know now and then apply it to our younger life!!
ReplyDeleteYes, I don't want to change things I just want to be kinder and more loving.
ReplyDeleteThere are no riches nor wealth to wish for. Just being normal and doing our own thing. That'll be enough justification for a good life to start with. But it is still nice to fantasize. Wonderful lines Sherry!
ReplyDeleteHank
Going back and doing it better is not an option....we have to think about what we learned on our journey.
ReplyDeleteYou said this so beautifully. A wish we may all have.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that is a wish we can all relate to, Sherry.
ReplyDeleteYou know Sherry, this is what I think was in my heart when I was trying to write, yet I went very far afield from it before it crept back in--you have walked straight down the path to it, and said it simply and eloquently for all to hear. if only we could! Kudos.
ReplyDeleteI think this is the kind of wish every single one of us wishes, especially after we've lived a bit... So many things we could have done better as individuals... as a society...
ReplyDeleteIt is a good wish...life is like that, by the time, we have learned all that we have come to learn, it is over.
ReplyDeleteLove that wish and that image of the owl and the little faerie house... Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThis causes me to tear up...its beautiful and its heart breaking - I love the fairy lore spin you place on your poem, Sherry. ♥
ReplyDeleteThis one brings tears to my eyes too, Sherry--agh--me too. k.
ReplyDeletea beautiful tale of heart's desire
ReplyDeleteFrom your neck of the woods, you do not want to hear the owl call your name, right? A very natural & spiritual write that catapulted me into a write with similar trappings.
ReplyDeleteOh, what I know now, and how I could apply it to the past... :)
ReplyDeleteGreat poem, Koko. I re-read the poem and the words that struck me were:
ReplyDelete"Not the wish you always wish,
but a bigger wish,
spoken by the soul of you."
Ah, hindsight. xo
ReplyDeleteOh, I have that wish also. I wish I could go back and block the people that brought my daughters' pain.
ReplyDeleteAww, me too.
ReplyDeleteHow did I know, you have a heart the size of the universe, you have already worked miracles, and your wish is to do better. I think it's hard to beat your record. Love your attitude and your writing. Thanks Sherry!!!!
ReplyDeleteyeah... ~
