THE LAST STAR OF THE MORNING

Traveler walks like a moving tree,
like a wind-whisper, singing,
like the breath of dawn.

Traveler is a part
of the landscape;
she carries with her
a corner of the sky.

Traveler rises with the morning sun.
She is always walking towards
the next sunset.

There is the last star of morning
on her shoulder.
She wears the first star
of evening in her hair.

The moon is her mistress,
a songbird flies from branch
to branch beside her,
and a wolf-shadow
companions
her every step.

One from 2011, re-posted for the Poetry Pantry at Poets United, where you will find many beautiful offerings every Sunday morning!

How very true Sherry! A traveler will always be able to blend with the environment and adjust to make the journey a pleasure.

  10. How important it is we must be as a traveling tree being part of the environment and not its nemesis.

  11. Its like the movement of the sun across the sky, always in motion. I rather like the thought of the traveller carrying it on their shoulder. Agree with Old Egg as well.

  14. I specially admire how you describe the traveler:

There is the last star of morning
    on her shoulder.
    She wears the first star
    of evening in her hair.

    Happy Sunday traveler ~

  16. To carry with her a corner of the sky....ah that sounds so intimate...like a symbiotic relationship with Nature....as it should be. Lovely. And what a perfect image you chose for this :-)

  18. Love this glimpse of a natural soul; a life that lives and is that which surrounds her. There are surprises and perhaps fears in her future, but whatever comes... she will step towards the next sunset.

'There is the last star of morning

  24. For me, this piece is allegorical of a walk for change. The moving tree: a metaphor for old ways that are often so deep-rooted and unyielding they seem to be unmovable. The traveler, a part of the landscape, and carrying a corner of the sky indicates that change is coming. The traveler has it within her grasp and it is going forward. The many aspects of nature that accompany the traveler: a testament to the "rightness" (the "natural order") inherent in this quest for change. Don't know if that is quite what you had in mind when you wrote it, but that's where my mind went: an epic odyssey on a quest for change.

My muse is resting. Couldn't think of a thing to write for the pantry this weekend, though I tried.
