The wounded jaguar came when I was dreaming
and lay beside my bed with bloodied paw.
The jaguar's eyes were wild and dark and gleaming,
and mine were open wide with breathless awe.
Jaguar lay beside my bed with bloodied paw.
Traveling through dream-time,we met a shaman.
My eyes were open wide with breathless awe
at leopard, jungle wild, I, just a layman.
Traveling through dream-time, we met a shaman.
When his gaze beheld the jaguar's wound, it healed.
The leopard, jungle wild, I, just a layman,
yet the secret of healing wounds had been revealed.
When his gaze beheld the jaguar's wound, it healed.
The jaguar's eyes were wild and dark and gleaming.
The secret of healing wounds had been revealed,
because the wounded jaguar came when I was dreaming.
A pantoum. Just because.
I thought that was a wonderful read.
ReplyDeleteThe repetition of lines adds to the peaceful, dreamy feel of it. Very nicely done.
ReplyDeleteAnimal medicine is powerful. So are dreams.
ReplyDeleteYour skillful execution of pantoum always amazes me. And you never lose track of message, meaning, purpose. You were born to do this, Sherry.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that the secret of healing wounds was revealed.
ReplyDeleteLove the thought of healing the wounds. Sometimes the dreams is what we need to go on.
ReplyDeleteHealing wounds in dreams can be just what reality needs. A lovely, atmospheric pantoum.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a wonderful poem Sherry. I loved the way you portrayed the jaguar and how his wounds healed at the end. Well penned :D
ReplyDeleteLots of love,
Sanaa
Love this pantoum form.
ReplyDeleteOh a mystic dream described in such a beautiful way. I like how you can write in a format so expertly.
ReplyDeleteA Pantoum rarely seen is a whiff of freshness Sherry! A wound anywhere, of the heart especially will take time to heal.
ReplyDeleteHank
The opening line grabbed my attention right away.
ReplyDeleteThis is really inspired, Sherry.
ReplyDeleteI'm liking this, Sherry. It was a nice dream, one that a person likes to remem..ber. Also Iearned a new word, "shaman".
ReplyDelete..
This is a form I always struggle with ~ you have nailed it in beautiful fashion. Lovely piece.
ReplyDeletenice how you weave your way in and out of the dream that kinda connects the characters in here
ReplyDeleteThe form adds the somewhat chaotic feel of dream to this, where images are stark and large than life, swirling in and out. Love the jaguar's eyes.
ReplyDeleteYeah, good choice on the repetition for the dreaminess! Nice, nice.
ReplyDeleteMystical, It feels like there is a lesson reaching through the dream. I wish I had such vivid dreams.
