Only the Best

Hummingbirds on my porch

"Time and that which sings and contemplates in you is still dwelling within the bounds of that first moment which scattered the stars." Gibran

In the trajectory of our
being on this earth,
from birth to death,
we zoom through time,
as bright
and swift as shooting stars,
traveling, headlong,
at the speed of light,
as swiftly gone.

I have trekked some 24,000 days,
have squandered years and tears
of that largesse.
But some shine golden
in my memory.
In trying to forget the rest,
I keep only the best.

  1. Evenings, Sherry. Your porch looks down upon a valley and you have those hummies coming in. Clearly, an abundance of things in nature that you have been blessed with.

How befitting, that you should want to travel at the speed of light to unknown galaxies while some of us would willingly give their right hand for a steady supply of clean water

    :(

    1. It is always so nice to have your name pop up, my friend. I was thinking here more of life passing as fast as the speed of light, as I am feeling the press of time these days. I wouldnt want to go to another planet, I so adore this one. And I do so hear you about people in other places who lack such basic needs as fresh water...........thanks for raising that point as it cannot be mentioned often enough. I am very fortunate in where I live. My heart aches for all the inequities in this world, as you know...........thanks so much for reading and commenting. I appreciate it.

    2. Thank you for putting up that picture of the bird feeder. This world that we inhabit could surely do better with people with such empathy as yours, Sherry of the blue skies :)

  2. I, too, Sherry, I too. And when you put it in perspective like this, I know it is also a "best" to travel "light."

  9. Oh yes, there are many forgettable days; but it is good to savor those very special ones that we have all had. The richness of those experiences will forever shine bright.

  11. Sherry,

A fast whizz through your life, poetically. Of course the wasted years and those tears, come to everyone, at some point in time. Memories are magnificent for their ability to remind of the ups and the downs, tested over time.
A fine capture of time...Loved your humming birds:)

  12. Yes indeed the speed at which we travel depends on the amount of baggage we carry!

  15. Memories should be selective so we keep only the best tucked away and take a look at them at intervals and nod our heads with pleasure.

Life wheeze past so easily and so fast. One may not have time to think. Very true Sherry!

  17. Life is precious...we in the west have won the lottery. Sadly our good fortune is unacknowledged by us and our greed is killing us instead. I don't believe one can gain enlightenment until one casts off materialism.

  18. I love the use of numbers in poetry - they seem to add a measure of insight that sometimes words can't equal...also love the stars and light..it is those we must keep in our pocket xo

  23. Lovely piece, Sherry. It is only as we become older that we appreciate how quickly time passes and how we should enjoy and make the most of every second given to us. Our journey through time is like a shooting star!
