Four Toads

google

She opened her mouth
and four toads popped out,
startled, yet relieved
she had opted out of eating them,
or at least so they believed.

Hands to her mouth in consternation,
flustered, she intoned,
"I only intended to eat the legs,
but wanted them de-boned."

Well. I'm sorry. It has been a long day and this is all that's left of my brain. For Karin's prompt at Real Toads: to write about something edible. Four toads seemed appropriate.

  1. I am smiling, Sherry. :) Now I know why she didn't swallow the toads, it would have been bones and all. So good!
I've eaten frogs' legs but not toads so far.

  2. Ha.. yes a big smile on my face..Actually twice as funny for me, as we have a saying that would translate "frogs jumping out of your mouth" said when you say something you didn't intend to do, and later have to apologize for...

  6. That embarrassing moment when...frogs jump out of your mouth! Laughing, Sherry. I like what's left of our brains! ;_) I think it's the best part.

  7. I agree with Hedge ...haha! Also, this reminds me of the ffairy tale where the good princess spoke diamonds and the bad ones spoke toads and nasty things. I wouldn't want either!

  8. Well now, being a vegetarian, I really feel for those toads. And knowing you're a nature lover, I'm not surprised they weren't eaten in your poem.
Sherry, this is so cute and funny. What comes out of your mind when you're very tired is actually very, very good.

  15. I've heard the frogs legs are quite the delicacy, but I for one would never try it myself. Don't much care for eating exotic foods.

  17. Urrgh! Sherry, I feel them in my throat - a folksy fairytale comes to mind, but I can't remember which :-)

    Loves always
