I wandered half my life asleep
dreaming of one whose love would sweep
me off my feet,
me off my feet,
though the key to my heart was buried
plenty deep.
plenty deep.
He never came. I never made
the leap.
Instead,
I learned to reap
the joy of solitude
so sweet.
The key to my heart,
now,
forevermore,
to myself
I'll keep.
Instead,
I learned to reap
the joy of solitude
so sweet.
The key to my heart,
now,
forevermore,
to myself
I'll keep.
Has been a day of Trauma by Dentists, so just this quick snippet in response to Susan's post at Mid-Week Motiff: The Key.
I was tempted to scream EEEEEK! Until such a sweet joy, that paradoxically, we share.
ReplyDeleteSherry, I know what a good and kind and loving person you are. This poem breaks my heart really. Truly sometimes life is not fair at all!
ReplyDeleteSad poem. Although enjoying sweet solitude toute seule is better than solitude in a relationship. Don't be fooled by all that happy family stuff...a lot is just window dressing.
ReplyDeleteI love this part best:
ReplyDeleteI learned to reap
the joy of solitude
so sweet.
We make the best of what life gives or not gift us ~ Good one Sherry ~
Workmanlike despite the distraction. You are a pro.

smiles...and if that is what you are comfortable with...that is where you should stay...finding that joy in yourself...and in solitude...too many would try to fill that gap, just to fill it...
ReplyDeleteKeep your happiness and your key. That happiness is the most important.
ReplyDeletewhat can i say but Thy will be done...and bliss of solitude is a gift offered to chosen persons by Him.. may your days be filled with happiness..so sad lines Sherry..
ReplyDeleteLovely rhyme to this - and I love rhyme, when it is pulled off with this level of aplomb. There is joy in solitude, I know. Sometimes, I (SILENTLY) scream for it. Smiles.
ReplyDelete(I love your poetry, and will get round to checking old posts out. Having fried my keyboard (dang that coffee slurp) I've been out of commission for a bit.)
the wise find peace and see their path clearly. hope you are having a great birthday month:)
ReplyDeleteLove this, my dear Sherry, and dreadfully upset that I can't write right now myself.
ReplyDeletePerhaps I will return. Keep fingers and toes crossed. Luv, K
Hope you are OK - loathe dentists! Ugh! He did come and you did make the leap - with Pup. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteOh1!wow, just love it. The most precious thing in the world our heart all to ourself!
ReplyDeleteSolitude is not loneliness.
ReplyDeleteMerely aloneness, which is also a gift.
Hope your toothach left.
Tooth-ache is a nasty thing! Hopefully you've got it over with by now. Nicely penned Sherry!

I like this Sherry. It shows the art of acceptance, grace and self-appreciation.
ReplyDeleteA lot of life seems spent in a sleep state...there is much to be said for changing what you think you need...often things come along then and are a pleasant surprise..unlike toothache..which I hope gets better
ReplyDeleteYou rhymes really help to maintain focus on your central message, Sherry.
ReplyDeleteLovely verse as always Sherry. As a fellow singleton your words struck a poignant chord with me too. I have also found the joys of solitude and independence to be a balm for those days spent in solitary pursuits. Bless.
ReplyDeleteI haven't written anything for this lovely key prompt but I thought I'd visit a few poets while I have the Internet up and running smoothly.
there are people in this world who are happy to be in solitude forever. can't judge them cause everyone has his or her preferences and such. thanks Sherry this was relatable. :)
ReplyDeletesad tragic yet with a sweet comforting ending.Lovely flowing rhyme scheme
ReplyDeleteTouching lines but as always you sing a nice peaceful song at the end... your poems are always comforting ...
ReplyDeleteBTW, sometimes I do find joy in solitude...I love to be with myself.. :-)
