Strange Angels

beliefnet.com

Strange angels have visited my life
and wandered through my byways.
I see them from
the corners of my eyes
as they flit up the staircase,
gray and golden.

Who will come,
when the naked moon
rises up over the mountain,
and the wolves howl,
forlorn, in the hidden valleys?

Strange angels,
to show me the way.

At Real Toads Marian set us a prompt to write something inspired by Laurie Anderson, whom I have always loved, especially her song Strange Angels.  I was struck by her image of the sun coming up "like a big bald head", which is where the naked moon comes from. The rest is just about my resident ghosts, who flutter near, sometimes.

  2. I love the combination of colours in 'gray and golden', suggesting the transparency of your strange angels, as well as the light that shines around them.

  21. There is a certain eeriness to your words. The imagery is clear and the feeling is felt. Those strange angels and their showing the way may well be a good omen.
    Interesting and well written.

  24. So many angels all around us, Sherry. Sometimes a homeless person, sometimes a helping hand, sometimes the glimmer of the moon on frozen snow reminds me of angels. Loved your use of color in this! Be well and warm, Amy

this poem flowed so well, and makes one ponder on the wonderous, beautiful, unanswered questions of this life!

  27. I love angels and I believe in them with all my heart! So many times I have met people in my life who have helped me in miraculous ways just when I needed them. I believe these people were acting on inspiration from the angels. Lovely poem!
