The crone, wrinkled and gnarled,
with her long stringy hair,
is stirring in the forest
in her nest of leaves.
Rabbits and wolf cubs perk their ears
and the bear is arrested mid-swoop,
while fishing in the river.
She is sounding the drum,
its reverberating thrum
calling the Council of All Beings
to the river's edge.
Her drumbeat is calling me
out of the gray town.
It beckons me deep
into the forest's heart,
where all is green, and silent
and sacred.
I enter the primeval sepulchre
as the world goes still
and falls away.
The way forward is written
somewhere
within that stillness.
I need but listen closely,
to find my way.
Listen closely, Sherry. You will hear what you need to hear!
ReplyDeletethere is always one distinct sound for the soul..you will know it when you hear it... great poem Sherry
ReplyDeleteGood place for the drumming to begin with the crone in the leaves in the forest--I feel it's trustworthy as a heart beat. Trance-like.
ReplyDeleteI love the path you have paved and I will follow the drumming-it is where we find ourselves!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
Merry Christmas Sherry

ReplyDeleteSoothing setting. No wonder it relaxes you enough to listen.
ReplyDeletebeautiful as always...
ReplyDeletethe drumbeat of the forest leading you out into the wild, onto new ways... and you have to trust the guidance of your heart to find them as well...
ReplyDeleteMother Nature?
ReplyDeletelistening is an art and one that is not often practised, well captured here, well done,
ReplyDeleteTo listen to the sound of Nature.. The wind rustling the trees the bird chirping away.. I'm sure we can hear that council there.
ReplyDeleteYour description is so vivid I can see it all before my eyes: the woman and her drum deep in the forest primeval.
ReplyDeleteExcellent Sherry and sometimes a search is needed for an elusive answer. The way forward is there - though it might need some looking.
ReplyDeleteKind regards
Anna :o]
