American Sentences from Canada
Midnight crescent moon on navy sky, clouds scudding past, battleship gray.
Afghan vets' Antarctic trek : wounded warriors walking to inspire.
Call to Tofino: question asked, hopes suspended, dreams arising.
Oldster falls over fat golden dog: plethora of quaking fat rolls.
Pondering the imponderables, one must surrender self to trust.
at dVerse, the challenge (and challenge it is!) is to write American sentences, a form created by Ginsberg, each line having seventeen syllables. My "lines" dont fit all in one line on my template - but each one is seventeen syllables:)
Oh yes this is a challenge.. but very inspiring both to read and to write...loved the last one.
ReplyDeleteI smiled (perhaps I shouldn't) at the oldster falling over the fat golden dog...I hope the oldster didn't get hurt, but the image amused me.
ReplyDeleteAh, I hope the call to Tofino comes to reality, Sherry! And soon, very soon!
I enjoyed your Canadian American sentences Sherry. "Midnight crescent moon on navy sky, clouds scudding past, battleship gray" - beautiful image! And I hope your dream comes true!
ReplyDeletethe fat dog...this is just an awesome image...ha... made me smile as well.. the wounded warriors made me swallow..
ReplyDeleteSelf trust - that's hard to surrender to! Loved this combination...
ReplyDeleteThese are like aphorisms... the wounded warriors were my favorite image, though I'm putting out a lot of energy for Tofino. And that last one! I'm going off now to "surrender self to trust." (A short nap before prayer meeting.)
ReplyDeleteReally good play of words. Varied and vivid images present in your words. :-)
ReplyDelete-HA
hahaha plethora eh? lol....be careful where you step sherry....def that trek is inspiring....and def on the trust....esp when there are things well beyond our control...
ReplyDeleteI like what you did with these. Are we poetic neighbors, me in Tacoma, WA, and you up there on Vancouver Island? how cool is that? My fave, also, is the Afghan Vets line.
ReplyDeleteLast I checked, Canada is part of North America, so no problem there. My favorites are the first and last verses. :)
