Sproat Lake forest
We emerge from winter,
bleary-eyed as winter bears,
as famished as raccoons,
ready to chatter our joy like bluejays
to welcome the sunlight in.
as famished as raccoons,
ready to chatter our joy like bluejays
to welcome the sunlight in.
We watch the buds,
miraculously formed, just ready to open,
with the wonder of children
pondering the unfathomable
Mystery.
Shedding the weight of winter,
expanding under the spaciousness
of warmth and sky,
away from our stuffy winter rooms,
we perch ourselves on logs,
on chairs, on porches,
lazy and content,
as calm as pumpkins,
to savor the emergence
of yet another spring.
we perch ourselves on logs,
on chairs, on porches,
lazy and content,
as calm as pumpkins,
to savor the emergence
of yet another spring.
I enjoyed reading this Sherry--spring is wonderful in those cold winter places! I especially loved the idea of being as content as pumpkins! Now there's a goal for me!
ReplyDeleteBeing a pumpkin is very restful.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to the emergence of spring ~ It is still cold but slighter getting warmer now ~ Happy week to you ~
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry,
ReplyDeleteLonging for the blooms..the changing of seasons.. emergence of the spirit. Enjoyed your write.
There is a profound sense of reawakening in Spring, not only for the elements of nature but in mankind too.
ReplyDeleteAloha, fellow pumpkins! :-)
ReplyDeleteA ripple of unique images leads us in wonder to sit, observe, celebrate. A very special poem indeed!
ReplyDeleteI prefer being compared to bears, raccoons and bluejays. But a pumpkin is probably more apt. Love this spring-emergence poem.
ReplyDeleteThe emergence of another spring IS indeed a wonderful thing to savor!! Beautiful poem, Sherry.
ReplyDeleteI love this, Sherry. I had to laugh at Margaret's comment, because I definitely have more in common with a pumpkin than with a bear, a raccoon or a bluejay. LOL
ReplyDeleteK
I love the likening to nature's amazing creatures in our reactions to spring aptly expressed Sherry...I love the part about the Blue Jays...so true!! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Sherry! You inspire me to want to be in the autumn and be a calm pumpkin~ This poem made me smile :D
ReplyDeleteOh yes - that's just how it is! Lovely Sherry!
ReplyDeleteSherry, as usual, you take things in nature we normally take for granted and turn them into a cornucopia of gratitude. I knew you'd choose this quote, and so glad you did, my little earth mama. Remember Thoreau: "I'd rather sit on a pumpkin, and have it all to myself, than be crowded on a velvet cushion." Nature beats human-made finery every time! Love, Amy
ReplyDelete"lazy and content,
ReplyDeleteas calm as pumpkins,
to savor the emergence
of yet another spring."--aww, this unfolds a beautiful spring--nature is truly beautiful:)loved this!
There's a glorious oneness with nature pervading this. Wordsworth would have approved, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteAs we slide into autumn, it is always refreshing to hear the other side blooming into spring!
ReplyDeleteYes... glorious spring... I'm so happy it has finally arrived!
ReplyDeletehow can we shed the weight of winter if we are famished like raccoons? THAT IS THE QUESTION. :)
ReplyDeletelove this Sherry. just joshin' with ya. xo
You know it's spring around here when folks start sitting out on the back porch, spittin' watermelon seeds at the chickens.
ReplyDeleteA pumkin here today might be a little on the icy side! LOL
ReplyDeleteYou speak of waking up in spring so beautifully.
