When the World Shifts

The Beauty of Others - from

Kids....
pray.
Pray without ceasing,
even
-and especially-
if your prayer is
simply:
Thank You.

Kids, my thought in writing this was to be mindful about saying prayers of gratitude often, not just prayers of supplication. Because when life is ordinary and uneventful, we don't realize how absolutely blessed and fortunate we are....until something happens.

As I was ready to post we just received word that my sister's friend's   23 year old son  dove off a ledge yesterday into the river and didn't come back up. They didn't find his body till this morning. His mother is in shock, and her everyday world has  transformed to what will be a long journey of grief. My heart goes out to her.

Cherish your normal life with awareness. It all can - and often does - change so swiftly.

  1. How sad about your sister's friend, Sherry. Yes, we do have to savor our normal life as long as it is normal; and we probably all realize that it can change at any moment. If life is moving along at an even keel, we just have to say "thank you, God." A beautiful message tonight, Sherry.

  3. How terrible. We are so close in our grief, our humanness and motherhood.
Life is such a paradox of beauty and terror.

  6. I am so sorry for your sister's friend. I am always thankful for ordinary days. They can make drastic turns in a breath. Thanks for your lovely poem reminding us to lift up thanks and not only petitions to God.

  7. This wondrously calming morning provided me by Nature's reception just became more appreciated.

    I echo Lorna Cahall's perspective.

I always ask my self about this paradox: Is harmony the ultimate destiny of chaos ?

Gracias mi amiga for waking us up to appreciation of 'ordinary'.

  9. Sherry, I popped over to see if you had commented on my comment that your dreamcatcher poem was written for someone you love and I read this poem. I love it, so perfectly simple and wise. A prayer I try to say every day:-) Then I read your comment and choked on my tea. My oldest son is 23. Cannot even imagine the level of grief your friend is feeling. My heart and prayers go out to her and her family <3

  11. So sorry for you sister's friend's loss. 23 is still such a baby, really. His mother's, family and friend's lives have changed forever. Life can and does turn in a flash. Dreadful news the mother will need such a long time to accept let alone come to terms with.
Yes, been through too much loss of loved ones now to not count my blessings, every day. So sad to read this Sherry.
