A Hint of Spring

[Englishman River]

Today it was mild, and one could smell the earth, the freshness of the air, even a hint of spring on the wayward breeze. There is a good 45 minutes of added daylight at the end of the day, which excites me. Every scrap of extra daylight is welcome, given the constant grays of this winter valley.

Soon the earth will be warm and it will be Open Door Weather for months and months. I so love leaving my doors open wide to the outside. Once it is warm enough, I love sitting on my porch swing, having my tea and contemplating absolutely nothing but the gentle rocking back and forth.

Before too long, one more winter will be over. Spring is heading this way.

  2. That's positive thinking...there's a thick frost here this morning! :)

  3. We're a long way from spring here, but the temperatures have been above freezing for a while. I hope no damage is done when we go down to -20 or even -30 again.
Your beautiful photo of the Englishman River made me both sad and happy. It's one of the rivers my dad wrote about in one of his Living Rivers of British Columbia books. It's been more than two years now since he died, but I still miss him.
You're so right about the 45 minutes of extra daylight. It's 5:45 here, and just about dark. I expect Lindy to come to my computer in a few minutes to tell me it's 6:00 and time to feed the dog.

  5. How beautiful you capture the sensations, Koko. I wish we had spring here too. May be it is in a different name.

  6. I too have a porch swing. And now I will think of you when I am there, Sherry.

  7. I love the lines:
“I so love leaving my doors open wide to the outside. Once it is warm enough, I love sitting on my porch swing, having my tea and contemplating absolutely nothing but the gentle rocking back and forth”

They are profound, Koko. Perhaps it could be symbolic of inviting the wonders of this nature into our lives. And by contemplating nothing, great ideas burst in!
