Only Mine To Sing

[for Poets United's Thursday Think Tank:
to write a poem based on  or inspired by a quotation.
The quotation incorporated below, in italics,  is
an old Chinese proverb]

A bird does not sing
because it has an answer.
It sings because it has a song.
The sun sets
unaffected by
its beauty.
The river's song,
it sings
the whole day long.

The morning dew
hydrates
both weed
and flower,
and everything
on earth
upholds
the sky,
for all is
equal
in the
  forest bower,
each living thing
 essential
as you and I.

My song?
I sang
because
the music
filled me.
I sang
for joy,
the hope
that love
would bring.
In all those years,
I never once
stopped
singing
the song
that
was mine,
and only mine,
to sing.

  8. Beautiful. True inspiration comes only when we let nature's beauty make an imprint upon us and fill us with wonder. The bird lets nature do her work and so it sings. We poets
also get inspired because we just take a second to look around. It reflects in your poem too.
