Marigolds

There were marigolds lining the garden path
when my kids and I were young,
their bright yellow and orange faces
nodding over the fence,
all through summer and fall,
as we harvested all
the seeds we had sown,
now grown.

Just so the smiling faces
of my leggy children
have transformed
into middle-aged children,
the harvest of all
we have experienced together,
the sum of all
we have known.

for Susan's prompt at Midweek Motif: Blooms. Thotpurge's poem reminded me of my summer garden Back in the Day.

  1. Beautiful. We had the marigolds, too, as they were supposed to ward off pests. I don't knoow that they did, but I liked them and thought of them as guardians. I love the analogy you make here.

  4. Marigolds..sun..safety and smiles..that seems the most important harvest..one that lasts through time and love. I love the photos also - especially the first one - such joy in discovering the bloom

  11. Precious times and memories Sherry! Almost like magical times. I used to grow Marigolds around my garden they kept the bugs busy and not on my vegetables. So nice to be able to come read again! Hugs!

  12. Isn't it a shame that flowers can't age with us? How precious that would be! But, then, we couldn't experience the anticipation of waiting for new blooms to open, and the joy when they finally do.
