WOLF HOWLS AND WARRIOR HEARTS

source

You have faded
from sight and from sound.
But your wolf howl
has come to live
in my heart.

A warrior woman
is stirring there,
for something is wrong.
Something is wrong
in the land,
that we are trying
to understand.

I bid her:
Speak.
Speak,
for Mother Earth
is dying.
Speak,
for all the whales
are crying.
Speak
for ravaged hillsides
which can
no longer grow.
Speak
to save
the earth.
It is
the only world
we know.

She tells me
warrior hearts are on the rise.
She says beyond the blood
and grief and guns,
we must be calm, and just,
and wise.

Since you're gone,
wolf howls have come
to live in my heart,
and a warrior woman
is stirring there,
for something is wrong.
Something is wrong,
ever since you've been
gone.

  1. Oh such an absence...it seems the world is going to hell when our loved ones are gone. The earth and we cannot make up the loss.

    'beyond the blood
    and grief and guns,
we must be calm, and just,
    and wise.'

Our earth is dying and we humans are certainly bent on destruction. Beautiful and wise words Sherry!

  2. You feel the absence of spirit with a kindred soul. The warriors must stay strong and listen with attentive ears to the whispering trees.

There is something wrong and I wonder how will it ever change. My heart grieves.

  3. This is a powerful lament, Sherry. Something is wrong indeed. We need a chorus of voices to speak loudly and clearly and actions to be taken to turn the destruction of the earth around!

  5. A haunting howl! May it signify a return to sanity and justice, too long absent.

  6. Arresting on many levels. May the way of the peaceful warrior prevail.

  7. I feel so much the same way as the Earth is ravaged and little thought is given to the survival of fauna and flora. The coral is bleaching losing its dependents and the polar bears have no home yet this is all brushed aside as to do something may upset developers, miners, industrialists and the poor old millionaires. I cannot believe that so few people have concerns or that politicians are so blind.

  9. What a sad and deep sorrow in your words... that tragedy of mother earth... though i think she might shrug us off in the end, like a dog with fleas.

  11. An unsettling feeling often resides in the stomach and soul - i know you will understand it and wait for the quiet balance to be restored- she will return when the moment is right

  17. This is beautiful in its call for wisdom, in its advocacy for this earth and in its yearning for someone/thing that is absent. I know there is a wise peaceful warrior in your soul and she is wise.

  18. This is so sad, Sherry... A dirge for the dying earth cried out by her vanishing creatures. What more must we see as proof of earth's need of friends to save her?
