Inner Cave

Cave of Hang Son Doong, Vietnam

My heart is a cave,
long unexplored,
in which prickly stalagmites
and undiscovered pearls
await the hapless traveler
who dares to enter in.

Within me
lies an underground river,
 busy, burbling and babbling,
at times settling into silent pools
of profound stillness.
The cave walls weep,
drop by drop,
into the basin:
plop
    plop
         plop.

Traveler
has been walking
this inner cave
for a hundred years.
She carries
the map,
the journey
and the destination
inside her
 cavern walls.

  8. How beautiful! I can't tell at what point the cave heart becomes the poet's and not its namesake's but I love the river that runs through it, the tearful walls and the journey inside with map and destination. Powerful.

  18. The traveler can guide and delight us so, if we pay attention and follow the path to these under-explored regions.
