On Wonder

[Day 18 of the Soul Card Journey
with Elizabeth Crawford of Soul's Music
Soul Cards by Deborah Koff-Chapin
at http://www.touchdrawing.com/]

For so long,
she had
only half
a heart,
her life,
her self,
undefined,
amorphous,
seeking like
a blind  thing
to gain
some purchase
on firm ground.

It is such
a long journey
for an inch-long
baby kangaroo
to make it
all the way up
into its mother's
pouch,
then back out again
and off,
leaping about
on its
directionless legs.

Traveler
finally found
a place to
plant
her feet.
They have
carried her
a long way,
now,
so long,
her knees
are buckling.
She leans
more heavily
on her staff.

But that sky,
the beauty of it,
keeps drawing her
forward.
Today
she saw
the most
perfect cloud
of her 64 years.
Remarkable!
that wonder
increases
with age,
nothing ever
gets old.

  1. I love this poem, especially the last stanza. I DO wish you had had your camera along to take a picture of that most perfect cloud. You are right, nothing gets old...IF we look at it with 'fresh' eyes!

  2. Must echo Mary, and the choice to look with fresh eyes. I like what you did with the image, but then I have liked everyone of them so far. It really has turned into quite the adventure. Thanks for coming along,

    Elizabeth

  4. I love the line "that wonder increases with age and never gets old"! It is the view and the tilt of our perception that give us the ability to see the true gold in anything,in anyone, and in everywhere~xXx Beautiful!!!

  7. Loved this...I find it so true that wonder increases each and every day we live on this wonderful planet, even as the journey becomes harder to navigate...:)
