OM SHANTI

September 2, 2002

Om Shanti.
(I am a peaceful soul.)

Peaceful
as the ancient wise old
stones
that rise up gray
against a brooding sky
as detached
as the dove-shaped clouds
that wisp serenely
by

Our souls have
traveled
far
'cross distant galaxies
from their home of silence
beyond the stars
From the moment we are born,
we are returning
along a pathway
that is
uniquely
ours

Om Shanti
I am a very
peaceful soul.
Tell me your dream,
and is it peaceful too?
How came we here
to this veiled question
written on the sky?
Another path diverging:
walk on,
or just go by

We live this life like a dream
that is dreaming itself.
Bemused we ponder
the way
we're meant to take
We sleepwalk
through our
solitary choices
and, at dream's end,
of one accord,
we wake.

  4. I especially like:
"We live this life like a dream
    that is dreaming itself."

The piece overall reminded me of "The Dream Song."

  11. Right! Dimensions inside dimensions, and universes inside their parallel counterparts! Dreams inside dreams! We do walk thus. Not on land, but on this 'space'.

The last para reminded me of how at times we wake up suddenly from a dream as if we'd fallen into a deep abyss.

I am so happy you thought to bring forward other peace poems you have written. This one rocks, cradle-like, as I read, so by the end I waken to peace that is around me and not a dream. Thank you. It could be the mountain itself speaking.

  17. Well, I could have sworn I commented on this one.....good thing I checked back. I like the idea of as soon as we are born we are on our way back returning. So true, but people don't realize that for a long time...if ever...or at least think about it in that way.
